Move your Settings to a New Computer

This document will tell you how to move your ISP-related settings to a new computer.

In order to set up your new computer, you'll need a few things. First, you need to know what kind of computer you have (PC or Macintosh), and you have to know what version of Windows or Mac OS your computer is running.

You'll also need the settings you got from Earthnet when you set up your first computer.

Additionally, if you are using a wireless adapter to connect to your DSL modem, do not forget to write down your WEP key or WPA passphrase (this is not something we can provide to you, since we do not know what your WEP key or your WPA pass phrase is).


If you are using DSL with an Actiontec or a Cisco modem, and you want to move your settings to a brand new computer, you do not need to reconfigure anything on the modem. Your modem will retain its settings, no matter which computer it is plugged into (the configuration settings are stored on the modem itself, not on the computer). Simply plug the Ethernet cable into your new computer, and it should work right away!

However, if you are using a dialup connection, you will need to reconfigure your connection on the new computer. The same goes for email: you will need to reconfigure your email account on the new computer.

After you have all of your information, you can begin setting up your new computer.

One last note: this document only deals with your ISP settings. Moving to a new computer involves much more than merely reconfiguring your Internet connection and your email account.
