Nelson Goforth brings to web site development a unique blend of skills, combining analytical abilities in programming and site logic with the very right-brain experience of many years in the motion picture field.
I am not a graphic designer. I do not pretend to be a graphic designer (though I do think that Eiko Okura's site looks pretty nice). But a check on Google may yield an answer. And there IS a prettier page under development at my new site which touts web site development, database programming and search engine optimization.
In the past year I've created two large projects using a combination of MySQL with PHP and Perl, along with a number of smaller projects using those technologies and others.
I've created a searchable online location database for the Colorado Film Commission. This project is unlike any currently available. Based on my original concept, the Location Database allows searching on multiple keywords, creation and maintenance of personal "location folders", and the ability for a user to annotate locations and photos for their project and share that with their production team.

Nelson conceived of and built our amazing Location Database and the "myLocation Folder" feature. He also created a wonderfully simple Content Management System for our website. |

The Colorado Film Commission site also includes a customized Content Management System I devised in PHP and MySQL, so that the staff could more easily change items on almost every page. Several additional database tables serve specialized information about film festivals in Denver and throughout Colorado.
After several years of creating Excel VBA based analysis tools for Implementation Management Associates (IMA), an international management consulting firm specializing in change management, I've now created a web-based system that allows IMA to administer on-line testing using their proprietary tools. The main tools are only available to IMA clients, but you can see a sample at the IMA Worldwide website. Try the sample Stress Test, uses my technology, written in Perl, PHP and MySQL.
But, fair warning: the results of the Stress Test may depress you.
The Colorado Production Resource Guide is the major directory for film, video and multimedia professionals in the state. I implemented the web-based compliment CPRG/Online some years ago using Perl. It features basic search capabilities, hit logging and an interesting notification technique that both allows listees to monitor interest and proves the efficacy of the Guide at the same time. The CPRG is published by the Colorado Film and Video Association in conjuction with the Colorado Film Commission.
In addition I have many years experience working in Microsoft Excel with VBA programming (examples available), and have worked with straight Visual Basic as well. Then there's all the orts and bits of things one needs to know or picks up along the way: JavaScript, Flash, Java, Photoshop, neurosurgery, video editing, etc. My background in feature film and commercial production (see below) has occasionally lent itself to the project at hand.
I have experience with Macintosh, Unix and Windows computers. I've used Macs for ten years and now run Mac OS X (System 10), which, being a Unix system, combines the best of both worlds. I have established a number of networks using Macs and PCs.
I write clearly and concisely, and am an experienced public speaker. I have been known to bathe before client meetings.
I have extensive experience in training a variety of people in a variety of computer systems and applications. In particular I've worked with people in film and video production, teaching them everything from the simplest computer skills to database design. I won't say I can teach anything to anyone, but I can teach something to most people.
Even Assistant Directors.
Working with website and the internet is far more than simply creating a site or writing some cool software - there are political (i.e. involving actual humans) and management tasks involved in creating a successful web presence. In addition to computer skills training I can conduct seminars on website management, promotion and other topics.
If you're looking for the Gaffer, Electrician, all-around film and video lighting guy by the same name (and who looks a lot like me, but with a better tan), you'll want his motion picture resume.
